Among Ed Loses to Lilia Pineda
Former priest Ed Panlilio, Pampanga governor candidate lost to Lilia Pineda, the wife of the alleged gambling lord Bong Pineda. A few months before the election last May 10, Among Ed was also declared to have lost the 2007 election, and was ordered to vacate the post amid protests of his supporters.
Some quarters heralded the accession of Among Ed into the governor’s office and several awards were given to honor this triumph. That is fine with me, but it doesn’t go well with my personal principles, for me, the office of priests is the pulpit. It’s not so nice to see a politician doing the sermons in the Church isn’t it. Kaya nga merong separation of church and state di ba? Just the same, even the campaign strat and the mudslinging from both sides is also not very admirable. I do subscribe to the doctrine of Gibo Teodoro to positively campaign. Rally the people to be ‘united for’ and not ‘united against’.
Campaigns to “be united for something” is more lasting and self-sustaining rather than “be united against someone”. What if that someone suddenly dies (as in the case of Ferdinand Marcos) or that someone decides not to engage into the fight. People will be disenfranchised. It seemed to me that Gibo Teodoro acted more priest like than Among Ed, sorry to say. Tsk. Tsk.
