The Philippine Elections 2010: Election Fever in the Philippines
It’s just 9 days before the whole of Philippines goes to polling precincts to cast their votes for the positions of: the president, vice president, 12 senators, 1 congressman, 1 partylist representative, governor, vice governor, provincial board members, mayor, vice mayor, city or town councilors. Thus, the very long ballots. Whew! Are there any countries in the world voting this way?
Just the same, I will focus my discussion on the top post. The highly contested post. Enough reason for the 9 aspiring candidates to spend billions of pesos in exchange for a meager monthly salary that the post offer. In my succeeding hubs, I will share the views and opinions I have for each of the Presidential candidates.
But the most lingering question is why would anyone aspire to be the leader of the government touted as one of the most corrupt in the world, with billions of dollars in foreign debt, and where 70% of the population is wallowing in poverty?
Are they masochists?
Somebody please enlighten me.
